Vihiga man kills brother, stabs wife over suspected affair

A 25-year-old man is being sought by police after allegedly killing his elder brother and stabbing his wife over a suspected extramarital affair in Gisambai, Hamisi Sub-County, Vihiga County.

Police identified the deceased as Edris Juma Keya, 34, who was allegedly stabbed several times by his younger brother, following a confrontation at around 11:50pm on October 25.

The assailant confronted his elder brother over suspicions that he was having an affair with his wife, 24, police said.

A confrontation reportedly ensued before the assailant drew a knife and stabbed Keya several times in the back and chin, killing him at the scene.

The suspect is then alleged to have proceeded to his parents’ home, where his wife had sought refuge, and stabbed her in the back before fleeing.

The woman was rushed to Mbale Sub-County Hospital, where she was admitted in critical condition with a deep incision wound on her back.

Police visited the scene and recovered a knife suspected to have been used in the attack.

The scene was processed for forensic evidence, while Keya’s body was moved to Mbale Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

Police are pursuing the suspect as investigations into the fatal stabbing and the attack on his wife continue.

The bodies were discovered along the Githambo–Kahatia tarmac road on Monday, October 26, 2026, at around 4:10am, according to a police incident report.

Police officers who visited the scene found the two male bodies lying approximately 50 metres apart.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Samuel Nyaga Thuku, approximately 55, and another man identified only as Ngotho had left Club Numbers at around 10pm on Sunday following a reported disagreement.

Ngotho is alleged to have stabbed Thuku on the left side of the chest using a baton sword, causing him to collapse by the roadside.

An irate mob reportedly pursued Ngotho, lynched him and subsequently set his body on fire.

Police recovered a baton sword suspected to have been used in the stabbing from the roof of a roadside kiosk near Thuku’s body.

A bottle labelled Chrome Vodka was also recovered near Ngotho’s body. Investigators suspect it contained remnants of an accelerant. Both items were secured as exhibits.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) processed and documented the scene as part of the ongoing investigations.

The two bodies were later moved to Muriranjas Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where they were preserved pending postmortem examinations.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
