Woman, 42 injured as armed gang attempts to break into home in Kisumu


Police in Kisumu East Sub-County are investigating an attempted robbery after a woman was injured when armed assailants tried to force their way into her family’s home.

The incident, which occurred at about 3:40 a.m. on Thursday in Kamrongo Village, was reported later in the afternoon to Chiga Police Station.

The dramatic attack was captured on security cameras outside the house.

A resident told police that he was asleep when four men armed with crude weapons attempted to break into their house.

A woman aged 42, went to the main door to check what was happening but was struck in the face with an object thrown through a window by one of the attackers.

The family raised an alarm, prompting the gang to flee without stealing anything.

The injured woman was rushed to Avenue Hospital, where she was admitted in fair condition.

Police visited and processed the scene and have launched investigations. According to the complainant, two of the four suspects are well known to the family, and efforts to trace and arrest them are underway.

One of the suspects was armed with a pistol at the time of the attack. He also carried a machete and wore a hood in efforts to cover his identity.

Detectives were pursuing leads on the whereabouts of the suspects amid calls from locals for action to address the trend of attacks.

Locals say armed gangs have been marauding in the area and terrorizing them.

Police have vowed justice. Up to three cases of armed robberies are reported in the area on a daily basis. A special squad has been sent to the area amid ongoing operations to address the menace.
