17 injured in bus crash along Nakuru-Eldoret highway

At least 17 people sustained serious injuries following a bus crash at Migaa along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway in the early hours of Sunday, October 18.

Police said the accident occurred at around 12:30 am and involved a bus ferrying mourners from Kisumu.

The crash prompted a joint rescue operation involving the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) Nakuru Branch, police, Molo ambulance teams and members of the local community.

According to the Kenya Red Cross, rescue teams managed to free one of the victims who had been trapped in the wreckage for more than an hour.

“One casualty extricated after being trapped for over an hour,” the organisation said in an update shared on social media.

The organisation later confirmed that traffic flow along the busy highway had returned to normal following the rescue operation.

“Traffic now flowing normally,” KRCS stated.

The Kenya Red Cross urged motorists to exercise caution and observe road safety measures.

Police said they were investigating the incident. The road is billed among the leading highway killers. There are efforts to address the menace.
