A 21-year-old man drowned while swimming in the Indian Ocean at Watatu Watano Beach in Diani, Kwale County.
The deceased, identified as Lawrence Bahati was reportedly swimming when he drowned.
The incident was reported on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, an officer in charge of the Kwale County Rescue and Lifeguard Team.
Police officers visited the scene and recovered the victim’s lifeless body.
According to eyewitnesses, efforts to rescue Bahati were unsuccessful because of strong winds at the time of the incident.
Police processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Msambweni Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
The body is being preserved at the facility pending a postmortem examination.
Elsewhere, a 78-year-old woman drowned in a water pond in Kamboga Village, Wachara Sub-location, North Kanyikela Location, within Kobama Division, Ndhiwa Sub-County, Homa Bay County.
Police officers who visited the scene found the lifeless body of Serfina Okoth Nyaloo, an adult woman, floating in the water pond.
Police established that the body was discovered at around 6.15pm by women who had gone to the pond to fetch water. They subsequently alerted the deceased’s family.
According to preliminary information, Nyaloo was mentally challenged and had gone missing from her home. Family members had been searching for her before her body was discovered in the pond.
By Thursday morning, the body had not yet been retrieved from the water as efforts to recover it were ongoing.
Police and DCI officers are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
And a 23-year-old man died after he was allegedly electrocuted while working on the roof of a church in Mabirikani area, Kilifi Town.
The deceased, identified as Peter John Mwaboga, was reportedly among people engaged in the construction and repair of the roof at Shelter Worship Centre when he came into contact with an electrical current.
He is said to have died on the spot.
The incident was reported to Kilifi Police Station at about 5.34pm on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, by his grandfather, Henry Mwaboga, accompanied by Pastor Joshua Maro of Shelter Worship Centre and other church members.
Police officers visited the scene and commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death.
The body was subsequently moved to Kilifi General Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination and further police directions.
