21-year-old woman dies after suspected electrocution in Muhoroni rental unit, Kisumu County


Police in Muhoroni Sub-County, Kisumu County, are investigating the death of a 21-year-old woman who is suspected to have been electrocuted while hanging clothes at her residence.

The incident occurred on May 31, 2026, at Kopete Rental Unit in Pawteng Village, Wang’aya I Sub-Location, Nyangoma Location.

According to police reports, the deceased, identified as Ester Akoth, is believed to have come into contact with an electrified binding wire while airing clothes on a clothesline.

Police visited the scene and established that the victim had already been rushed to Port Florence Hospital in Awasi, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigators recovered the suspected electrified binding wire, which was documented and taken as an exhibit after being disconnected.

The scene was processed and documented, and the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) was notified to assist with technical assessment of the incident.

The body of the deceased was later moved to Othoo Funeral Home for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched investigations to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal incident.

Elsewhere, police in Sigowet Sub-County, Kericho County, are investigating the death of a 43-year-old man whose body was found in a river after he went missing from his home.

The drowning incident was reported on Sunday morning in Kabasweti Village, Kebeneti Location.

According to police, the deceased, identified as Richard Kimutai, had left his home on the night of May 30, 2026, and failed to return. Concerned family members began searching for him the following morning.

His father discovered his body in Changware River while searching for him and immediately alerted authorities

Police said the body had no visible physical injuries. Investigators also established that the deceased had a history of epilepsy, a factor that may assist in determining the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The scene was documented and processed before the body was transferred to Sigowet Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police have classified the matter as a drowning incident pending further investigations and autopsy results.
