A 25-year-old man was found dead inside a rented house in Migosi World Vision Estate, Kisumu Central, after residents noticed a foul smell emanating from the premises.
Police said the deceased, identified as Ernest Ochieng Otieno, a resident of Seme Sub-County, was found lying on his back inside the house.
The incident was reported by a resident of the estate, who told police that the bad smell prompted residents to check the house.
Police officers visited the scene and confirmed the death.
Police said the scene was processed and documented before the body was removed and taken to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
The cause of death remains unknown, with detectives awaiting the postmortem findings to establish the circumstances and immediate cause of his death.
Police have launched investigations into the incident.

The body was discovered on Monday, August 10, 2026, at about 5pm in Kimama Central Village, Chemondi Sub-location, Chemondi Location.
According to a police report from Chesikaki Police Station, 17-year-old Dawin Kiprop Sioy, a Sabaot, had gone to the river to take a bath when he spotted the body floating in the water.
Police officers were alerted and proceeded to the scene, where they recovered the body.
Officers processed the scene and reported that there were no visible injuries on the body.
The remains were removed and taken to the Bungoma Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation pending identification and autopsy.
