Iran’s intelligence services have arrested 26 individuals accused of collaborating with Israel, just days after a fragile ceasefire was announced between the two countries, Iranian state media reported Wednesday.
According to Fars News Agency, the individuals were detained by the Intelligence Organization of the Hazrat Vali Asr Corps.
The agency described the group as a mix of “operatives and deceived participants” involved in what was termed the “recent imposed war by the Zionist regime.”
“Most of them have confessed to their actions, including anti-security activities, spreading public anxiety, and acts of sabotage,” Fars reported, citing a statement from the intelligence agency.
The arrests come in the wake of increasingly bold claims from Israel’s top military officials.
On Wednesday, Israeli Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir said that Israeli commando units had conducted covert operations deep inside Iran during the 12-day conflict.
“We achieved full control over Iranian airspace and in every location where we chose to operate,” Zamir declared in a televised address.
He credited the success to coordination between air force units and ground commandos, along with support from U.S. intelligence services.
“These forces operated in secret deep within enemy territory and created operational freedom of action for us,” Zamir said.
In a further escalation of rhetoric and countermeasures, Iranian authorities also announced the execution of three men accused of spying for Israel on the same day.
Though details were sparse, Tehran has a long-standing practice of targeting individuals it accuses of collaborating with foreign intelligence services, particularly Mossad.
Despite the ceasefire, tensions remain high. Both Iran and Israel have declared victory following the cessation of hostilities on Tuesday, and analysts warn that the truce may only be temporary as both sides regroup.
International observers have called for restraint amid fears that the conflict could reignite, with regional implications far beyond the two nations directly involved.
