About 270,000 candidates who sat the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations have attained a C+ grade and above, qualifying them for direct university admission.
President William Ruto revealed the figures after being briefed by Education Cabinet Secretary Migos Ogamba ahead of the official release of the results.
The successful candidates represent 27 per cent of the 993,000 students who sat the national examinations, half of whom were girls.
According to the results, 1,932 candidates scored grade A, marking an improvement from the 1,693 students who attained the top grade in the 2024 KCSE examinations.
In 2024, a total of 246,391 candidates qualified for direct university entry.
In a statement shared on X after the briefing at Eldoret State Lodge in Uasin Gishu County, President Ruto expressed satisfaction with the performance, noting the increased number of candidates meeting the university entry threshold.
Following the presidential briefing, the Ministry of Education is expected to officially release the 2025 KCSE results today at AIC Chebisas High School in Eldoret.
The 2025 KCSE examinations were conducted between October 21 and November 21, with oral and practical assessments administered before the written papers.
The Education Ministry also reported a reduction in examination malpractices, with 418 candidates involved, down from 614 cases recorded in 2024.
