A farmer is counting loses after his 29 cows died hours after feeding on millet on a farm in Witu, Lamu County

The farmer told police he had been directed by a man who claimed he was the owner of the farm and that the millet was not doing well and he needed it to be removed.

Oblivious of the motive, the man drove his herd of cattle to the farm and fed them with the millet.

He told police the incident happened on January 26, 2026 in the morning in Pangani area.

Hours later, the cows dropped and died one by one.

The said owner of the farm had escaped the scene. Police and a team of veterinarians visited the scene and collected samples for analysis.

They said the matter is under investigation for action even as they ordered the carcasses be disposed of.

Police said they were looking for the man who claimed to have directed the herder to feed his cows on the millet.

Meanwhile, in Luanda, Vihiga County, a man was arrested over the murder of his relative aged 28.

The decomposed body of Monicah Kabola was found in the compound on January 25. Her family later identified the body at the mortuary before a suspect was arrested, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy. Murder cases have been on the rise amid efforts to solve them, police say.

Some of the cases are pending in courts while others are unsolved. Most of the cases are linked to land disputes, love triangles and deals gone bad, police investigations show.

Up to eight cases of murder are reported daily in the country in the worrying trend, police say.
