A 55-year-old woman died after she was electrocuted while taking a shower at her home in Nyamira North Sub-County, Nyamira County.
The deceased, identified as Beatrice Nyamokami Nyakweba, was reportedly electrocuted at about 5:30pm on Sunday, August 9, 2026, after coming into contact with a hanging exposed electric copper wire.
She was rushed to Ibara Mission Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police officers visited the hospital and confirmed the death. The body had minor burns on the right wrist.
Investigators also visited the scene and documented the circumstances surrounding the incident. Kenya Power personnel from Nyamira County were called to the scene and also conducted an assessment.
The body was preserved at Ibara Mission Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination as investigations into the incident continue.
Meanwhile, a nine-year-old Grade 3 pupil is feared to have drowned after a boat he was attempting to ride in capsized on the Thika River in Yatta, Machakos County.
The child was a pupil at Iyatini Primary School and reportedly drowned at about 5pm on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Nguumo Village in Kivingoni Sub-location.
Police at Mbembani Police Post were alerted at about 6pm after members of the public reported the incident.
Police who visited the scene established that the juvenile had been attempting to cross the river on a boat when it capsized.
The child was swept away by the river and his body had not been recovered by the time police called off the search due to darkness.
Residents and police are expected to resume the search on Monday morning as efforts to locate the missing pupil continue.
