Detectives from the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit (AHTCPU) in Mombasa have arrested Anthony Jakaa Muganda in connection with the defilement of a 12-year-old girl.
The incident began on an otherwise ordinary morning when the young girl, an orphan, was waiting at a bus stop to catch a vehicle to school.
Her innocence was shattered when Muganda, pretending to be a kind stranger, approached her and offered her a ride, claiming he was helping her.
Accoding to police, Muganda betrayed her trust. He diverted from the route to her school, took her to his home, and subjected her to sexual assault.
After threatening her to remain silent, he dropped her back at the bus stop dressed in her school uniform, leaving her traumatized and confused.
As she was beginning to process the ordeal, another tragic twist occurred. A man named Reginald Wamalwa noticed the distressed girl and took her to his house.
Instead of offering comfort and protection, Wamalwa exploited her vulnerable state by assaulting her himself. Following the attack, Wamalwa accompanied her to the police station, falsely claiming he was reporting Muganda.
It was during police questioning that the girl bravely disclosed Wamalwa’s assault. Wamalwa was immediately arrested and arraigned before the Shanzu Law Courts.
Meanwhile, police launched a manhunt for Muganda. Thanks to forensic evidence and persistent investigations, detectives tracked him to his hideout in Nyanchwa, Kisii town.
Muganda was arrested there and transported back to Mombasa, where he was processed and arraigned today before the Shanzu Law Courts.
This harrowing case highlights the urgent need for vigilance and community cooperation in protecting children from exploitation and abuse.
Authorities continue to urge the public to report any suspicious activities and remain committed to ensuring justice for victims of child abuse.
