Police in Chepalungu Sub-County have launched an intensive manhunt for a man accused of defiling his three-year-old daughter in a deeply disturbing incident that has shocked the local community.
The suspect, identified as Stanley Langat, allegedly committed the heinous act on Tuesday at the family’s homestead in Sing’oiwek village, located in the Segemik area of Bomet County.
According to preliminary police reports, the incident occurred while the child’s mother was away from home attending to domestic chores.
Upon her return, the mother reportedly found her daughter in visible pain and distress.
A closer examination revealed traces of blood on the child’s inner clothing, prompting her to raise the alarm and seek immediate help.
“The mother immediately raised the alarm after finding the child in a severe state,” confirmed Chepalungu Sub-County Police Commander Phanton Analo. “It is reported that the suspect, upon realizing the act had been discovered, fled the homestead in haste, taking several of his personal belongings.”
The child was rushed to Olbutyo Health Centre, where medical professionals provided urgent care and began the process of collecting forensic evidence.
A P3 form a critical document used in criminal investigations to record injuries has since been filled and submitted to authorities.
Medical experts are continuing to monitor the child’s condition as police collaborate with child protection officers to ensure the minor receives psychosocial support in addition to medical care.
Stanley Langat remains at large, and police have stepped up efforts to track him down. Authorities are urging members of the public to report any information that could aid in his arrest.
“Our investigations are ongoing, and we are pursuing all leads to ensure the suspect is arrested and faces the full force of the law,” Commander Analo emphasized.
The incident has triggered outrage among residents of Sing’oiwek and the wider Bomet County, with local leaders and community members condemning the act and calling for swift justice.
Human rights organizations and child welfare advocates are also speaking out, urging the government to strengthen protective mechanisms for vulnerable children, especially in rural areas where access to support services is limited.
“This is not just a crime against a child it’s a crime against our collective humanity,” said a spokesperson from Bomet County Gender and Child Protection Unit. “We must ensure that the survivor receives justice and the support needed to recover.”
This incident comes amid rising concerns over increasing cases of gender-based violence (GBV) and child abuse across Kenya.
According to data from the National Council for Children’s Services (NCCS), hundreds of such cases go unreported due to stigma, fear, and lack of access to legal and medical assistance.
Police are urging anyone with information on the whereabouts of Stanley Langat to report to the nearest police station or use the toll-free emergency hotline.
“The safety of our children is a priority,” said Commander Analo. “We will not rest until the perpetrator is brought to justice.”
