TikTok has become one of the most popular social media platforms, allowing users to share short, entertaining videos and connect with friends, creators, and communities worldwide. Among its many features, TikTok gives users the ability to repost videos. A repost is when someone shares another user’s video to their followers, making it more visible.
While reposts can help you discover new content, sometimes they may clutter your “For You Page” (FYP) or show content you are not interested in. If you find someone’s reposts distracting or repetitive, TikTok provides simple ways to reduce or stop seeing them.
When someone you follow reposts a video, it may appear in your feed. This feature helps boost visibility for videos and encourages engagement. However, not all users enjoy seeing reposted content, especially if it does not match their interests.
Thankfully, TikTok has built-in controls that allow you to manage how reposts appear on your feed.
Methods to Stop Seeing Someone’s Reposts
- Use the “Not Interested” Option
TikTok lets you train its algorithm by marking videos you don’t like.
- When you come across a reposted video, long-press on the video.
- A menu will appear with several options.
- Select “Not Interested.”
This will reduce the likelihood of similar reposts showing up on your FYP. Over time, TikTok will adjust your feed according to your preferences.
- Unfollow the User
If you find that a specific person reposts too many videos you don’t like, you can unfollow them.
- Go to their TikTok profile.
- Tap the “Following” button to unfollow.
This action will stop their reposts (and other activity) from appearing in your feed.
- Restrict Reposts from Your Friends Tab
TikTok also shows reposts in the Friends tab, where you see videos shared or reposted by people you follow. To limit this:
- You can reduce your engagement with this tab.
- Alternatively, focus more on the For You Page, where TikTok’s algorithm tailors videos to your taste, rather than relying heavily on reposts.
- Block the User (Last Resort)
If unfollowing is not enough or you want to stop all interaction with a particular user:
- Visit their profile.
- Tap the three dots (···) at the top right.
- Select Block.
Blocking ensures that none of their reposts, comments, or content will appear on your feed.
Why Managing Reposts Matters
Curating your TikTok feed helps you enjoy a personalized experience. By filtering out unwanted reposts, you:
- Ensure your feed reflects your true interests.
- Avoid content that feels repetitive or irrelevant.
- Create a smoother, more enjoyable TikTok browsing experience.
