Judiciary mourns passing of Hon. Justice Fredrick Ochieng Andago, court of appeal judge

The Judiciary of Kenya is mourning the loss of Hon. Justice Fredrick Ochieng Andago, a respected Judge of the Court of Appeal, who passed away recently.

The announcement was made by Hon. Lady Justice Martha K. Koome, Chief Justice of Kenya, and the Judicial Service Commission, expressing profound sadness over the passing.

Justice Ochieng joined the Judiciary in 2003 as a Judge of the High Court, serving with distinction across multiple divisions and regions including the Civil Division, Kitale, Kakamega, the Criminal Division, the Commercial and Admiralty Division, and Kisumu.

His exemplary service and dedication to justice earned him elevation to the Court of Appeal in 2022.

Known for his significant contributions to the development of Kenya’s commercial law, Justice Ochieng was also a fervent advocate of alternative dispute resolution.

At the time of his death, he chaired the Court Annexed Mediation Taskforce, which is responsible for the nationwide implementation of court-annexed mediation services aimed at improving dispute resolution efficiency.

Before his judicial career, Justice Ochieng spent nearly two decades as an Advocate of the High Court with Kaplan & Stratton Advocates, where he built a reputation for legal excellence.

In a statement, Chief Justice Koome extended condolences to Justice Ochieng’s family, friends, and colleagues, and called on all Kenyans to show sensitivity and compassion during this time of mourning.

“We stand in solidarity with his family, friends, and the entire Judiciary community during this difficult period. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” the statement read.

The Judiciary will continue to honor Justice Ochieng’s legacy and contributions to Kenya’s legal landscape.
