Cop shot and wounded in accidental discharge by colleague in Hagadera, Garissa County


A police officer was shot and seriously wounded by his colleague in what officials termed as an accident in Hagadera, Garissa County.

The incident happened Sunday evening when a team of police officers responded to a scene where a group was fighting in Hagadera Town, police said.

While trying to restore normalcy, one of the officers accidentally opened fire injuring his colleague in the back, police said.

He was hit by a bullet fired from an AK47 rifle in the scuffle and rushed to a hospital where he was admitted in stable condition.

Meanwhile, a suspect was stoned to death in a botched robbery incident in Kasarani area, Nairobi.

The suspect is said to have snatched a mobile phone from a pedestrian when an alarm was raised. The incident happened on Mwafrika Road, police and witnesses said.

The police were called to the scene minutes after the suspect had been stoned to death. The body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

Police discourage mob lynching and want suspects be surrendered to authorities for processing. This follows a rise in the incidents in the country.

And a pedestrian was killed in a road accident along Thika Road in Pangani area. The incident happened under a footbridge with police saying the victim had ignored the use of the bridge and decided to cross the road on foot.

He died on the spot as the car involved in the accident sped off. Police said they are investigating the incident.

In Kikuyu, a boda boda rider was killed in an accident. His two pillion passengers were injured in the incident.

The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations.

Fatal accidents have been on the rise in the country. Officials blame boda boda riders for most of the incidents amid a campaign to address the same.

More than 4,000 people die annually out of the accidents in the country while thousands others are injured, police say.
