Social media influencer Scophine Aoko Otieno, widely known as Maverick Aoko, has been located after being missing for nearly 10 days.
Her aide confirmed the news on Friday, revealing that Aoko was found at the Kenya-Tanzania border.
According to the aide, Aoko was taken to a hospital by an unidentified individual who claimed to have found her outside their residence.
“She’s been found at the Kenyan-Tanzania border.
Her family received a call from the hospital,” the aide stated.
“The father is on his way there, and we will keep everyone updated.
Thank you for your support during this time.”
Aoko, who last posted on social media on October 22, had sparked concern when she disappeared shortly after making a statement regarding a notable government figure, referred to only as “F.”
Initially, her family believed she may have gone into hiding as a precautionary measure.
The aide expressed the family’s apprehension about reporting her missing to authorities, citing previous threats allegedly made against Aoko.
“After her tweet about Mr. ‘F,’ she went off the grid, which we thought was just a way to throw off potential threats. But now we’re unsure who to turn to for help,” the aide tweeted.
The family is hoping for Aoko’s safe return and is urging authorities to clarify her situation, whether she has been abducted or is simply hiding.
“If she was taken, we ask that they bring her forward.
If she is hiding, we pray for her safety,” the aide added.
Just weeks before her disappearance, Aoko experienced a break-in at her Nairobi home, an incident she chose to keep private to avoid raising alarms about her whereabouts.
Reports from her security personnel indicated that unknown individuals had been asking about her.
“Upon returning to Nairobi, she found her door badly damaged.
She was understandably frightened and decided to keep a low profile,” her aide reported.
“Her caretaker and security guard noted suspicious activity, with strange men inquiring about her location.”
As the family awaits more information, they remain hopeful for Aoko’s well-being and appreciate the public’s concern and support.
