Residents of Emitik Village in Sogoo Ward, Narok South Constituency, are mourning the death of a 14-year-old girl following allegations that she sustained fatal injuries after being punished at home.
The deceased, identified as Peris Chepng’eno, was a Grade Seven pupil at Kijapa Primary School.
According to witnesses, including the area chief and the girl’s uncle, the teenager was allegedly beaten by her mother and sister over what were described as household-related mistakes.
During the reported punishment, the girl is said to have collapsed and lost consciousness.
Authorities confirmed that the two suspects have been arrested and are currently being held at Ololulung’a Police Station pending arraignment in court.
The body of the minor has been transferred to Longisa Hospital Mortuary in Bomet County, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
Local leaders have urged residents to remain calm and allow investigations to proceed, while calling on families to adopt non-violent approaches when disciplining children.
The incident has sparked concern in Narok South, where leaders say there has been a worrying trend of residents taking the law into their own hands in handling disputes and domestic matters.
Police investigations are ongoing.
