Murkomen pushes for stronger Kenya–Singapore security collaboration

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening security cooperation with Singapore, describing the Asian nation as a key strategic partner in areas such as cybersecurity, digitalisation of government services, ICT capacity building, knowledge sharing, and skills development.

Murkomen made the remarks on the sidelines of the Global Fraud Summit in Vienna, Austria, where he held discussions with Edwin Tong, Singapore’s Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs.

The talks focused on expanding cooperation in security coordination, institutional capacity building, and the fight against emerging forms of transnational crime.

The Cabinet Secretary noted that Kenya is currently developing a framework for the establishment of the Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit, as directed by William Ruto last month.

He said Singapore’s policing model offers valuable lessons in command structure, effective use of technology, and strong community involvement in maintaining law and order.

According to Murkomen, the proposed metropolitan police unit will enhance security coordination across the Nairobi metropolitan area, strengthen law enforcement capacity, and improve the country’s response to emerging security threats.
