Head Of Government Delivery Services Peter Mbae Resigns

Peter Mbae, the Head of Government Delivery Services (GDS), has stepped down from his position, citing unresolved issues and challenges that made his role untenable.

In a resignation letter addressed to the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei, Mbae explained that despite his dedication and consistent efforts, several matters he had raised had not been addressed, impacting his ability to effectively carry out his duties.

In his letter dated Monday, January 13, Mbae stated, “Despite my passion, focus, and consistency, for reasons and issues that I have consistently brought to your attention and have not been resolved to date, it has not been possible to carry out my duties as intended.

As a result, my position as Head of Government Delivery Services is no longer tenable.”

He went on to express his desire to formally disengage from the role in order to pursue other interests and remain accountable to the people of Kenya, noting that the position was widely publicized.

Mbae’s resignation marks the end of his tenure in the position, which he assumed in June 2024.

Prior to this role, he had a notable career in public service, having been appointed by the Public Service Commission (PSC) in January 2023 as the Secretary for Investment Promotion within the Ministry of Trade.

His career continued with significant roles, including serving as Head of the Ministerial Delivery Unit and Head of Ministerial Programs in the Ministry of Public Service in October 2023.

Throughout his career, Mbae emphasized that he had always served with dedication and commitment, with a focus on achieving tangible and sustainable transformation in line with the Kenya Kwanza Government’s manifesto.

He expressed pride in his contributions across different roles, but ultimately felt that the unresolved challenges hindered his ability to effectively perform his duties.

The resignation of such a key figure in the government’s delivery services raises questions about the state of internal administration and the continued efforts to streamline the execution of government programs and projects across various ministries and departments.
