A woman working with a government agency was injured during a violent robbery at her home in Busia County in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Police said the incident occurred at around 3:30 a.m. in Khung’ungu Village, Modinka Sub-location and that the assailant, who was armed with a crude weapon and a knife, reportedly gained access to the house by cutting through the iron sheet roof before entering the residence.
He then proceeded directly to the victim’s bedroom, where he attacked her while she was asleep.
The victim sustained injuries to her face and the left side of her head during the ordeal. The attacker made away with Sh130,000 in cash and an iPhone, police said.
She was rushed to Brimaxa Hospital, where she received treatment and was later discharged in fair condition.
Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers processed the scene and recovered a pair of tin scissors believed to have been used to cut through the roof, as well as shoes suspected to belong to the suspect. The items have been retained as exhibits to aid in investigations.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect as investigations into the incident continue.
Police said they had intensified operations in Busia to address rising rate of general crime in the border area.
Elsewhere, a Ugandan national was arrested after he claimed he had been robbed of a salon car as he drove from Mombasa to Kampala.
He told police his Subaru car developed mechanical problems forcing him to stop in the Daystar area along Mombasa highway on March 25.
It was then he claimed two men emerged from a bush armed with crude weapons forcing him to run for his safety.
The said thieves escaped with his car. He was detained when he went to report at the local police station as investigations go on.
Police said the car was unregistered and was on transit to Uganda.
