Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested ten suspects in Siaya County following an intelligence-led operation targeting violent criminal gangs blamed for a wave of robberies and sexual assaults in the region.
The operation, which marks a significant escalation in efforts to restore security, was launched after a series of disturbing incidents reported on March 17 and March 21, 2026.
Acting on intelligence, detectives conducted a coordinated 4 a.m. raid that led to a major breakthrough with the arrest of two key suspects, 21-year-old Brian Ochieng and Titus Omondi, also known as “Tito,” aged 20.
The duo was found in possession of stolen mobile phones.
Authorities revealed that through investigative interviewing, the two suspects provided crucial information that guided detectives to several hideouts in Ulafu, Umala, and Ramba villages, areas believed to be strongholds for the gang.
Subsequent operations in the identified locations resulted in the arrest of eight more suspects aged between 17 and 24.
They include Julius Odongo Otieno, Elvis Otieno Juma, Castro Odhiambo, Stanley Ochieng alias “Stanoo,” James Otieno Onyango, Stephen Otieno Atieno, Javan Omondi alias “Atego,” and Japhet Shikulu alias “Jeff.”
During the raids, detectives recovered a cache of crude weapons suspected to have been used in the crimes.
These included six pangas, a knife, two spotlights, two dust coats, and four additional mobile phones believed to be stolen.
All recovered items have since been secured as exhibits to support the ongoing investigations.
The arrests are linked to a string of violent robberies and gang rapes that had instilled fear among residents, with authorities now expressing optimism that the operation has significantly disrupted the criminal network.

The DCI has issued a stern warning to criminals, emphasizing that law enforcement agencies will not relent in pursuing those engaging in lawlessness.
“No criminal will enjoy the gains of their actions at the expense of innocent citizens,” the agency noted.
As the suspects await arraignment in court, members of the public have been urged to continue collaborating with law enforcement by sharing information that could aid in the fight against crime.
The DCI reiterated the availability of anonymous reporting channels, including toll-free hotlines and WhatsApp platforms.
The crackdown underscores renewed efforts by security agencies to curb rising cases of violent crime in parts of western Kenya, with more operations expected as investigations continue.
