Police in Eldas, Wajir County, are investigating the death of an unidentified elderly man whose body was discovered inside a locked hotel room.
The incident was reported on Monday morning. This was after the owner of Qumiley Hotel noticed that one of the rooms had not been cleaned according to the routine schedule.
The hotel owner reportedly attempted to access the room but found it locked from the inside. After knocking several times without receiving any response, she alerted police.
Investigators established that the room had been booked on Sunday at around noon by a man believed to be about 70 years old.
Police said the man appeared weak and sickly at the time of check-in. He reportedly paid for the room in cash and no personal details were recorded.
Police visited the scene and broke into the room after confirming it had been locked from the inside.
Inside, they found the lifeless body of an African male adult lying naked on the bed. Blood was reportedly oozing from his mouth.
A mobile phone was also recovered from the scene.
The scene was processed and the body moved to Wajir Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy to establish the cause of death.
Elsewhere, police in Murang’a East Sub-County are investigating the death of a 50-year-old man whose body was found inside a shed near a car wash in Murang’a town.
According to the police, the incident was reported on Monday morning. This was after members of the public discovered a body lying near the car wash at Sagana bus stop.
The deceased was identified as John Waruingi Wachera, a 50-year-old Kikuyu man, whose body was found lying inside a shed.
Investigators also said the body had no visible physical injuries.
The scene was processed and documented by scenes of crime personnel. Afterwards, the body was moved to Murang’a Level 5 Hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
