Man, 25, murdered in Nyamira village over claims of stealing


A 25-year-old man was clobbered to death over claims of stealing in a village in Masaba North, Nyamira County on May 11.

The police said the man was identified as Edwin Samba. He was pronounced dead in hospital where he had been rushed to after the incident.

Two suspects were later arrested over the murder. Police said they were looking for two more suspects over the murder.

The body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Meanwhile, five cases of drowning were on reported in different parts of the country May 11. Police said the cases were reported in West Pokot, Kirinyaga, Migori and Machakos Counties.

Police said the bodies of the victims were moved to the mortuaries pending post mortem exercises.

Drowning has been among the leading causes of death in the past four months with over 200 people being confirmed dead. Dozens others were displaced in the incidents.

Officials warned that there are fears of more of such incidents in Tana River County, following heavy rains experienced.

Elsewhere, a 47-year-old man was electrocuted in an incident in Ragumo area, Kisumu County on May 11.

Police said the body of Benjamin Awuor was found on the roadside after he was hit by live electric wires in the area.

The wires had been dangerously dangling in the area for the past three days before the incident happened on May 11. Locals said Kenya Power and Lighting officials were alerted but failed to take action in time.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy as investigations go on.

Cases of electrocution have been on the rise with the power utility officials being blamed for some of them.

Others are linked to illegal power connections and use of quacks for wiring projects.

Officials also said efforts are being made to address the menace.
