Ruto hails growing Kenya-Kazakhstan ties during historic Astana visit

President William Ruto has hailed the strengthening diplomatic ties between Kenya and Kazakhstan, describing his visit to Astana as a key milestone in deepening relations between the two nations.

Speaking during his official visit, President Ruto thanked his Kazakh counterpart for the warm reception and hospitality extended to him and the Kenyan delegation, noting that the visit marked the first-ever trip by a Kenyan president to Kazakhstan.

“On my own behalf and on behalf of my delegation, I thank you for the invitation and for the warm and gracious welcome that we have received during this maiden visit by a Kenyan president to your great country. We have truly felt the warmth of Astana,” Ruto said.

The President recalled his earlier meeting with the Kazakh leader in New York in 2023, saying it laid the foundation for renewed engagement and stronger bilateral cooperation.

“The meeting we had in New York in 2023 became the starting point for us to build on the relationship between our two countries, which was established in 1993,” he said.

Ruto also welcomed Kazakhstan’s decision to establish a resident ambassador in Nairobi, describing the move as a sign of the growing importance both governments attach to diplomatic and economic cooperation.

“Your decision to have a resident ambassador in Nairobi underscores the importance that your government attaches to the relationship between Astana and Nairobi,” he added.

The visit is expected to strengthen cooperation between Kenya and Kazakhstan in areas such as trade, investment, diplomacy, and regional collaboration, as both countries seek to expand bilateral ties and unlock new opportunities for economic growth.
