Police in Kisii County are investigating a murder and mob injustice incident after a 39-year-old woman was fatally stabbed during a night event at a local club along the Migori–Kisumu Road.
According to police, the incident occurred on Saturday during a concert by the Inda Live Band at Cindes Club in the Embassy area. The deceased, identified as Mercy Natali Mkutuku, 39, was in the company of her niece when she was allegedly stabbed in the chest over undisclosed motives.
Police said the suspect, a 26-year-old Luo male adult and allegedly the victim’s boyfriend, was linked to the attack.
The victim was rushed to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital by a Good Samaritan but was pronounced dead on arrival due to the severity of the injuries.
Following the incident, members of the public allegedly attacked the suspect in an act of mob justice. Police officers intervened and rescued him in serious condition before rushing him to the same hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment under medical care and security watch.
The body of the deceased is lying at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary pending post-mortem examination.
Investigations into the stabbing and the subsequent mob attack are ongoing.
Meanwhile, police in Nyamira County amended an earlier report of serious assault to a murder investigation after a man who had been receiving treatment for severe injuries succumbed in hospital.
This follows an incident that happened on May 30, 2026 when James Osiango Kiriango, a 64-year-old man was attacked by unknown assailants armed with pangas.
The victim sustained serious head injuries and was first admitted at Nyamira County Referral Hospital before being referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, where he was placed in the Intensive Care Unit.
Police confirmed that Kiriango succumbed to his injuries on June 16, 2026 and death was reported on June 20, 2026.
The body is currently lying at the mortuary pending post-mortem examination.
Investigations into the attack are ongoing, with police treating the case as murder following the victim’s death.
