Elsewhere, police in Nyandarua County have arrested a 41-year-old woman following the death of her four-year-old daughter in an incident that also left another child narrowly escaping harm.

The incident was reported at about 10:05 a.m. on Friday.

According to police, Ann Njambi is alleged to have strangled her four-year-old daughter, Shantel Wangui, at their home in Subuku Trading Centre.

Investigators said the incident occurred at around 7:00 a.m. Neighbours were alerted by screams and commotion from the house and reportedly found the woman allegedly attempting to strangle her other daughter, Clare Nyokabi, 11.

The neighbours intervened and rescued the older child before contacting the suspect’s brother, Charles Mwangi, who visited the scene and alerted police.

Police said preliminary investigations suggest the suspect may be of unsound mind, although her mental condition will be subject to further assessment as part of the investigation.
