A three-year-old girl has died after drowning in a fish pond at her grandfather’s home in Mbeere South Sub-County, Embu County.
According to police, the incident was reported at about 5:00 p.m. on June 30, 2026, at Ngiori Village.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the child had gone to fetch water from a fish pond within the compound of her grandfather when she slipped into the pond and drowned.
Family members rushed to rescue her and managed to retrieve her from the water, but she had already died.
Crime scene officers processed the scene before the body was moved to Kings Funeral Home mortuary in Kiritiri, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
And police recovered the body of a 36-year-old man who had been reported missing several days earlier in Kakamega County.
According to police, the partially decomposed body was spotted floating in River Yala near Iguhu Bridge in Ivonda Sub-location at about 4:00 p.m. on June 30, 2026.
Police visited the scene and retrieved the body, which was identified as that of Douglas Machisu Malimu.
Police said the deceased had been reported missing from his home on June 26, 2026, at Savane Police Station. His body was positively identified by his father, Elvas Malimu Machisu, who told investigators that his son had a history of mental health challenges.
Preliminary examination revealed no visible physical injuries on the body.
The body was moved to the Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death. Police are continuing with investigations into the incident.
