Body of missing man found in 40 foot well at Machakos homestead

Police in Kangundo, Machakos County, are investigating the death of a 40-year-old man whose body was found in a dry well several days after he was reported missing.

The deceased, identified as John Kyulu Kioko, had been reported missing after he disappeared on June 28, 2026.

According to police, his father reported that he discovered his son’s body on Wednesday inside a 40-foot-deep dry well within their homestead in Masewani Village, Kangundo Township Location.

Police officers visited the scene. Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers processed and documented the area before the body, which was partially decomposed, was retrieved with the assistance of the Machakos County Fire Brigade.

The body was taken to Patjud Funeral Home, where it will undergo a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.

Police have launched investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

Elsewhere, police have launched investigations into the murder of an unidentified woman whose body was discovered in a maize plantation in Kimilili Sub-County, Bungoma County.

The body was found on Wednesday after a village elder alerted police to the discovery in Musina Village.

Police visited the scene and found the body lying face down about 100 metres inside a maize plantation from the main murram road.

Police observed visible stab wounds on the woman’s chin and signs of strangulation on her neck. Investigators also noted that there were no signs of a struggle at the location, leading to the preliminary conclusion that the body had been dumped there after the killing occurred elsewhere.

Initial investigations further suggest that the woman may have been killed a day earlier, as the body was not fresh when it was discovered.

Crime scene investigators documented the scene before the body, which had no identification documents, was moved to Kimilili Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending identification and a post-mortem examination.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder and are appealing for information that may help identify the deceased and those responsible for her death.
