Uganda’s Internal Security Organisation (ISO) director general Brig Gen Charles Oluka is dead.
Oluka died at a hospital along the Kampala-Entebbe Highway on Wednesday January 29, the presidency announced.
“Sad news coming in of the sudden death of Brig Gen Charles Oluka. He died at Seguku Hospital where he was rushed this (Wednesday) evening,” presidential deputy press secretary Faruk Kirunda wrote on X.
As Uganda’s spy chief since 2020, Oluka played a key role in rebuilding the reputation of the country’s local intelligence gathering outfit from the tumult left by his predecessor Col Kaka.
Oluka, who was in January 2024 promoted to Brig by President Museveni died aged 57.
Speaker Anita Among mourned the death of Oluka.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Brig. Gen. Charles Oluka, the Director General of ISO.
His dedication and service to our country were exemplary, and his commitment to ensuring a secure Uganda will always be remembered.”
“On behalf of Parliament and myself, I extend my heartfelt condolences to H.E. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, as well as to his family, the UPDF fraternity, his friends, and the security community. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” she said in a post on X.
