Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has renewed the terms of several key education sector leaders and appointed a new member to the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) Governing Council, according to the latest Kenya Gazette.
The appointments, which took effect on July 17, 2026, are aimed at ensuring continuity in the management and oversight of institutions responsible for curriculum development and technical education standards in the country.
Among the notable changes is the reappointment of Prof. Ahmed Kibet Ferej as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council.
The Gazette notice also confirmed the reappointment of several council members, including Dr. Mercy Wanjiru Mwaniki, Loice Chelagat Kutoh Yator, Rachel N. Kimani, Florence Atieno Suji, Architect Wambua Nyamai and Dr. Joseph Kaberia Arimba.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 46 (1) of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Act, the Cabinet Secretary reappoints the Non-Executive Chairperson and members of the council for a period of three years,” the Gazette notice states.
The council plays a critical role in developing training curricula, overseeing assessments and ensuring certification standards within Kenya’s technical and vocational education institutions.
In a separate notice, Ogamba reappointed Prof. Andrew Rasugu Otachi Riechi and Kibiwott Munge as members of the Governing Council of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).
The Education CS also appointed Margaret Njaggah as a new member of the KICD Governing Council for a three-year term.
According to the Gazette, the appointments were made under the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development Act and became effective on July 17, 2026.
“The appointments are effective from 17th July 2026,” the notice reads.
KICD is the national body mandated to develop, review and approve curricula and curriculum support materials for Kenya’s education system.
The reappointments come at a time when the education sector is implementing reforms under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and expanding technical and vocational training opportunities to equip learners with industry-relevant skills.
Education stakeholders are expected to closely watch the renewed leadership teams as they steer curriculum development and skills training programmes that are central to the country’s education transformation agenda.
