Two elderly men found murdered separately in Kwale and Kilifi Counties

Detectives are investigating two separate murder incidents involving elderly men in parts of Kwale and Kilifi Counties.

In the first incident, police in Kwale County launched investigations into the brutal killing of a 65-year-old man whose body was found in a maize farm with severe injuries.

The incident was reported on Tuesday after a village elder alerted authorities that a body had been discovered at Vitangani Village in Mnyenzeni Sub-location.

Police officers from Kasemeni Police Post, accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Taru, visited the scene and found the body of Mwangoma Nyamawi Gwede lying face down in a maize farm.

Investigators established that the deceased had sustained deep cut wounds to the head. One of his palms had been chopped off, and his eyes had been severed, indicating a particularly violent attack.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased was walking home from a nearby shop when he was allegedly ambushed by unknown assailants and killed.

Crime scene investigators processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to the Coast Provincial General Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched investigations to establish the motive for the killing and identify those responsible.

Elsewhere, police in Kilifi County launched investigations after the body of a 72-year-old man was found with multiple deep cut wounds in a thicket in Ganze Sub-County.

The body was discovered on Tuesday.

Police found the body of Karisa Charo Tsomtsengo, 72, lying on his back with multiple cut wounds on his hands and left leg, as well as a deep cut to the neck.

Police said the body had already begun decomposing and was discovered by a herder.

A torch and a mobile phone believed to belong to the deceased were recovered beside the body and taken as exhibits for forensic examination.

Investigators established that the deceased lived alone in a house located about three kilometres from where his body was found.

The motive for the killing has not yet been established.
