Police in Siaya County are investigating the killing of a 38-year-old man following a fight outside a pub in Ng’iya Market, Gem Wagai Sub-County.
The deceased, identified as Kennedy Odhiambo Akech, was found dead on Wednesday morning with visible injuries to his face, believed to have been sustained during an assault.
Preliminary investigations established that Odhiambo had last been seen on Tuesday evening in the company of a local. The two are reported to have visited a pub in Ng’iya Market before a fight broke out as they were leaving during the night.
Police believe Kennedy died from injuries sustained during the altercation.
Following the incident, members of the public attacked the suspect in an apparent act of mob justice before officers from Ng’iya Police Post intervened and rescued him.
The suspect was taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations offices in Yala for questioning before being escorted to hospital for treatment.
The deceased’s body was photographed, the scene documented, and the remains moved to Yala Sub-County Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing as police prepare to take further action against the suspect.
And police in Embu County have arrested a suspect following the murder of a 57-year-old casual labourer who was found dead inside the house where he lived in Mbeere South Sub-County.
The deceased, identified as Justin Muchira, was discovered on Wednesday afternoon inside a house belonging to his employer in Kangungi Village, Gachoka Sub-location.
Police found Muchira lying dead inside the house with blood covering his body. A preliminary examination revealed multiple injuries to his face and the back of his head, as well as a fractured left leg below the knee.
His employer told investigators that he had last seen the deceased at about 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to police, another man went to wake him at around 3 a.m. on Wednesday as they had planned to go and harvest muguka (miraa). He found the house door wide open and the deceased lying unresponsive on the floor of his bedroom.
Crime scene officers processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Embu Level Five Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
Police have a suspect to assist with investigations into the killing as detectives work to establish the motive behind the murder.
