Police in Embu County arrested a suspect following the murder of a 57-year-old casual labourer whose body was found inside his house in Mbeere South Sub-county.
The incident was reported at about 1 p.m. on Tuesday after the area assistant chief of Gachoka Sub-location alerted police to the discovery of a body at Kangungi Village.
Police officers visited the scene and found the deceased, identified as Justin Muchira, lying dead inside a house belonging to his employer, where he lived.
An examination at the scene revealed that the body was covered in blood and had sustained injuries to the face, the back of the head and a fractured left leg below the knee, indicating he had been violently attacked.
The deceased’s employer told investigators that he last saw Muchira alive at around 6 p.m. on Monday.
Police were further informed that at about 3 a.m. on Tuesday, a man identified as Justus Mundia went to wake the deceased so they could travel together to pick muguka (miraa). He found the house door wide open and Muchira lying unresponsive on the floor of his bedroom.
Crime scene investigators documented the scene before the body was moved to Embu Level Five Hospital Mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination.
