A 30-year-old man was brutally murdered at a quarry site in Lami Nyeusi area, West Pokot County, police have reported.
The incident occurred on Saturday night near a river at the quarry site.
Police officers rushed to the scene and found the body of Kiratany Tingwa, a resident of Masol Location, with his throat reportedly slit.
Police identified Losia Lotome as the key suspect in the killing. Lotome is said to have fled the scene shortly after the incident, leaving behind his national identity card.
Police officers documented and photographed the scene as investigations into the murder began.
The body was moved to Kapenguria Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Police are pursuing the suspect as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing continue.
And a 57-year-old fisherman drowned after a canoe he was travelling in capsized in the Indian Ocean off Kaswakini Village, Magarini Sub-County, Kilifi County.
The deceased, identified as Katana Kahaso Karisa, was found dead at the shoreline early Sunday morning after being swept away by strong waves.
According to police, Karisa and fellow fisherman had gone fishing on Saturday, August 15, and were returning in the evening when their canoe was hit by strong waves and capsized.
One managed to swim to safety, but Karisa was unable to make it out of the ocean alive.
Police visited the scene and found Karisa’s body lying along the shoreline. He had a slight injury on his lower lip.
Police processed the scene before moving the body to Malindi Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
The incident comes amid renewed concerns over the dangers faced by fishermen operating in the Indian Ocean, particularly during rough weather and strong waves.
Meanwhile, a 41-year-old man died after a fire broke out at his home in Mucagara Village, Thumaita Sub-location, Kirinyaga County, on Sunday morning.
The deceased, identified as Cyprian Gichovi Muchiri, was found lying on a bed after the two-roomed timber house was completely consumed by the fire.
Police officers rushed to the scene after the incident was reported at about 7:30am.
According to police, the fire destroyed the entire house and household items inside. The victim’s body was extensively burnt.
Police said Muchiri had a history of asthma. The circumstances surrounding the outbreak of the fire remain under investigation.
The body was removed and taken to Kibugi Funeral Home, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
