Police in Bungoma County launched a manhunt for a suspect accused of killing a 64-year-old man following allegations that he was having an affair with his wife.
The deceased, Charles Wekesa Makhanu, a resident of Sinoko area in Kanduyi Division, was found lying lifeless outside a gate in the Zero Zero area of Bungoma town on Tuesday evening.
A resident, discovered the body at about 7:30pm while returning home from work.
Police officers visited the scene and confirmed the death.
The deceased had suffered a deep cut to the head, with blood oozing from the injury.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Wekesa had allegedly been attacked by a man, who is said to have suspected him of having an affair with his wife.
Police said the suspect allegedly struck the deceased on the head with a brick, inflicting serious injuries that resulted in his death.
The suspect fled the scene and remained at large as police intensified the search for him.
Crime scene investigators from Bungoma South processed the scene before the body was moved to Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing as efforts to apprehend the suspect continue.
