Man killed in attack during traditional initiation preparations in Likuyani, Kakamega


Police in Likuyani, Kakamega County, have launched investigations into the murder of a 41-year-old man who was allegedly attacked by two men while a group of people was preparing for a traditional initiation ceremony.

Harrison Azisi Amwai was reportedly called aside by two men at Dr Ng’ang’a village in Kongoni Location on Friday evening.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 6.10pm.

The two suspects allegedly lured Amwai away from the group into a narrow footpath, where they reportedly attacked him with sharp objects before fleeing.

Police officers who responded to the scene found Amwai lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries.

He had visible injuries to the neck, cuts on the head and right ear, while both eyes had reportedly been gouged out.

A blood-stained knife and a pair of pliers were recovered at the scene.

Police processed and documented the scene before moving the body to Likuyani Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Investigators have launched a search for the two suspects, while the motive for the attack remains unclear.

Police are also expected to question members of the group that was preparing for the initiation ceremony as investigations continue.
