Khaligraph Jones Reveals the Real Reason Behind His Dramatic Weight Loss: “I Was Overweight”

Kenyan rapper Khaligraph Jones has finally addressed the question that has dominated conversations around his recent physical transformation, revealing that his decision to shed a significant amount of weight was primarily driven by a desire to improve his health.

The award-winning rapper opened up about his transformation during an interview with journalists at the launch of Chrome Brandy at Tusker Microbrewery in Nairobi, where he was unveiled as the brand’s official ambassador.

For months, Jones, popularly known as the OG, has left fans stunned with his noticeably slimmer physique, prompting speculation about what could have motivated the dramatic change.

However, the rapper has now made it clear that there was no hidden or dramatic story behind his weight loss.

“I was overweight, and so I decided to do something about it; there is nothing big behind it. Looking like that and being overweight is not okay; let’s get healthy,” Jones said.

Khaligraph Jones’ weight-loss journey

Jones’ transformation has been particularly striking because of the amount of weight he has reportedly lost.

The rapper has revealed that his weight had reached approximately 137–140kg before he embarked on his fitness journey.

By August 2026, he had dropped to 99.8kg, marking the first time he had been below 100kg since his secondary-school years.

His ultimate goal is reportedly 90kg, meaning he could have lost close to 50kg from his heaviest point once he reaches his target.

The rapper has previously been open about the demanding routine behind his transformation.

In July 2026, Jones shared a video explaining that he was fasting for several days each week while following a strict eating programme.

“So, it’s on Wednesday, we have just ended our fast. Those that ask what we eat, this is what we eat. We do fast four days a week. Yesterday I only had watermelons, and that’s just a snippet. It is not easy but worth it,” he said.

Reports about his routine indicate that he combined fasting with a ketogenic-style diet, focusing on foods such as chicken, fish, eggs, vegetables and plenty of water while reducing processed foods and sugar.

He also incorporated regular weight training into his programme.

Jones says the transformation was about his health

While some fans have been nostalgic about the rapper’s former heavyweight appearance, Jones appears unfazed by the criticism.

The artiste has previously joked about people preferring his bigger frame, suggesting that some of those questioning his weight loss were simply more comfortable seeing him in his former physique.

His latest explanation, however, puts the focus firmly on his personal decision to become healthier rather than on meeting expectations about how a rapper should look.

The transformation also builds on a weight-loss journey Jones has documented publicly over the past year.

In June 2025, he revealed that he had already lost 22kg in three months, explaining that he had used intermittent fasting and drastically changed his diet.

At the time, he said he had moved from 137kg to 115kg.

“I started doing intermittent fasting. I did something that I would not want anyone to do because I needed quick results. I starved myself because my weight was too much,” he said at the time.

Jones later continued with his fitness regime, eventually recording an even more dramatic transformation.

From heavyweight rapper to fitness inspiration

Khaligraph’s changing physique has become a recurring topic among his fans, with the rapper regularly sharing glimpses of his workouts, meals and progress on social media.

His journey has also generated debate about body image, with some fans arguing that his former bulkier appearance was part of the identity that made him stand out in the Kenyan hip-hop scene.

However, Jones’ latest comments suggest that personal wellbeing has taken precedence over maintaining a particular appearance.

For the rapper, the message appears to be simple: success, fame and money mean little if one’s health is neglected.

Jones links his transformation to his bigger ambitions

Beyond his fitness journey, Jones has also used his recent public appearances to talk about ambition and staying grounded despite his success.

Speaking about Chrome’s “Levels Change Roots Don’t” campaign, he drew a connection between his personal growth and his professional journey.

“Regardless of where God places you in life, we have to be rooted to the cause of why we are doing what we are doing. The hunger remains the same. Despite everything that I have right now, the hunger remains the same; we strive for more,” Jones said.

His remarks reflect the mentality that has characterised his career, from his rise in Kenya’s hip-hop scene to becoming one of the country’s most recognisable rappers.

With his weight now hovering around the 100kg mark and a target of 90kg, Khaligraph Jones’ transformation appears far from over.

For now, the OG’s explanation has put an end to much of the speculation: he lost the weight because he felt he was overweight and wanted to get healthier.
