United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Homa Bay County chairman Franklin Oluoch has escaped unharmed after unknown assailants reportedly intercepted him and members of his team before setting his vehicle on fire.
The incident occurred on Saturday night, September 19, 2026, near Makongeni Estate on the outskirts of Homa Bay town, according to reports. Oluoch reportedly managed to get away safely while his vehicle was completely destroyed by the flames.

Reports indicate that Oluoch and his colleagues were travelling when they were confronted by a group of suspected attackers.
The circumstances surrounding the confrontation remain unclear, and authorities have not publicly established who was behind the incident or what may have triggered it.
Firefighters were later seen responding to the scene as the vehicle burned. However, the extent of the fire meant that the car could not be salvaged.
Oluoch reportedly did not suffer physical injuries during the incident, although the destruction of his vehicle leaves him counting significant losses.
Police have launched investigations as they seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack. At the time of the latest reports, no suspects had been arrested.
Incident comes amid heightened tensions in Homa Bay
The attack comes barely weeks after Homa Bay witnessed violence during the Linda Mwananchi political rally on August 16.
That confrontation resulted in deaths and injuries, with vehicles also damaged or set on fire.
Recent reports have continued to highlight concerns about political tensions in the county as Kenya moves closer to the 2027 General Election.
The August violence also left taxi driver Steven Otieno injured, while his vehicle was reportedly torched during the chaos. Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna subsequently pledged to replace Otieno’s vehicle.
Homa Bay has previously experienced other incidents involving attacks on political figures.
In May 2025, Deputy Governor Joseph Oyugi Magwanga’s vehicle was reportedly targeted in an incident that police treated as a suspected assassination attempt, although Magwanga himself was not inside the vehicle at the time.
Questions over motive remain unanswered
While the latest attack has generated concern among local political circles, the motive remains unknown.
There is also no established evidence in the available reporting linking the incident to a particular political group or individual.
Investigators will therefore have to establish whether the attack was politically motivated, criminal in nature, or connected to another dispute.
The incident is likely to attract further attention given the increasing political activity across the country ahead of the 2027 General Election.
For now, Oluoch’s survival without physical injuries stands in contrast to the destruction of his vehicle, while police continue working to determine who was responsible and why the attack occurred.
