Police in Machakos launched investigations after a human skull and other skeletal remains were discovered in a bush in Mukengesya Village, Masinga Sub-County.
The remains were discovered on Sunday, September 20, 2026, when a resident was clearing bush on his farm and came across a fleshless human skull.
Police officers visited the scene and conducted a search of the surrounding area.
More human bones without flesh were recovered during the search. Investigators also identified the spot where the body is believed to have been lying.
According to the police, the body had been scattered after being eaten by dogs, leaving the skeletal remains spread around the area.
The scene was processed and documented before the recovered bones were collected and taken to the Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary.
The remains are being preserved pending post-mortem examination and efforts to establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the death.
Meanwhile, police in Embu have launched investigations into the murder of a 60-year-old woman who was stabbed by an unknown assailant at her home in Kathande Village, Kianjokoma.
The deceased, identified as Jacinta Wanja, was alone in her wooden house at about 10:20pm on Sunday when the attacker allegedly gained entry by breaking through sections of the timber wall.
According to police, the assailant stabbed Wanja with a kitchen knife before fleeing the scene to an unknown destination.
The injured woman was rushed to Embu Level V Hospital for treatment but died while undergoing medical attention.
Police officers who visited the scene recovered a kitchen knife suspected to have been used in the attack. A sweater and vest believed to belong to the suspect were also recovered and preserved as exhibits.
The motive of the attack remains unknown as detectives continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The scene was processed and documented, while the body was moved to the Embu Level V Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
