Man Sentenced To Ten Years For Rape Of 23-Year-Old Woman

A 49-year-old man has been sentenced to ten years in prison after being convicted of raping a 23-year-old woman.

Ruphas Micheni Kinyua received the sentence from Chuka Resident Magistrate Oscar Wakina on Thursday.

The crime took place on September 12, 2023, when Kinyua lured the victim to his home with a false promise of employment as a housemaid.

According to a statement from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the victim met Kinyua around 9 PM in Mbogori, Chogoria, Tharaka-Nithi County, where he promised her a job.

Once at his residence, they shared a meal, after which Kinyua locked her inside before returning around midnight to assault her. He locked her in again after the attack.

Kinyua returned the next day, September 13, around 1 PM, released the victim, and gave her a sh. 100 note along with his phone number, instructing her to call him.

While on her way home, the victim encountered her aunt, who had been looking for her.
