The Government of Kenya has issued an urgent safety advisory for its citizens in Myanmar and Thailand following a powerful earthquake that has impacted both nations.
The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs has expressed its support for those affected by the disaster and provided essential safety guidelines for Kenyans in the region.
The earthquake, whose precise magnitude is still being confirmed, has caused significant damage across parts of Myanmar and Thailand.

Reports highlight collapsed buildings, damaged infrastructure, and ongoing aftershocks, which continue to pose dangers to local communities.
Rescue operations are underway, with both local and international disaster response teams assessing the damage and delivering aid.
To ensure the safety of Kenyans in the affected areas, the Ministry has urged all citizens to stay informed by monitoring news and official alerts for updates on aftershocks and emergency measures.

Diaspora Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu has advised citizens to avoid heavily damaged areas to reduce the risk of injury from unstable structures, debris, or landslides.
Additionally, Kenyans are encouraged to register with the Kenyan Embassy.
“Those who have not yet registered should provide their contact details to receive assistance and important updates.
The Kenya Embassy in Bangkok is available to offer support,” the advisory stated.
The government further emphasized the importance of adhering to evacuation orders and disaster management instructions.
It also urged Kenyans to check on their fellow citizens, particularly students, diaspora workers, and vulnerable individuals.
For emergency support, Kenyans in distress can contact the Kenyan Embassy in Bangkok through the hotline: +66990745752 or by emailing bangkok@mfa.go.ke.
The State Department for Diaspora Affairs has also provided an emergency hotline (+254114757002) and email (consular@diaspora.go.ke) for urgent assistance.
Authorities continue to closely monitor the situation and urge all Kenyans in Myanmar and Thailand to prioritize their safety and stay in touch with the embassy and relevant officials.
