Books And Beats: The Story Of Bruno Ojijo, A Campus Student And An Artist

Bruno Ojijo, a third year Film student at KCA University buries himself in books but during the night he transforms into Yungeen4rom Nun, an artist putting his soul, story and struggles into songs.

Bruno is able to balance between creating music and study groups, lyrics and lecture notes which is very difficult for most people to balance naturally.

Ojijo’s journey into the music career was not something planned but was developed through the struggles he faced. “Where I am from hardship is part of life,” he says.

Through the hardships he faced from childhood he was able to create unfiltered and unforgettable sounds.

“But it’s the struggle, generally, that pushed me and encouraged me to form myself on that land.”

Bruno doesn’t like to be labelled strictly as a musician as his music flows in every aspect of his being.

Unlike many artists who stick to one particular genre, Bruno’s music is categorized. “If you want to define it, call it trap or hip hop,” he says.

He blends rhythm with realness, capturing raw emotions and untold stories through his music.

“But I don’t know a specific genre, because I’m not that artist, like the normal artist, you know, where you see a singer, this is a trap artist and this is a reggae artist. I’m not that,” he says.

KCA University has played a major role in shaping his music career.

At KCA University Bruno found more than education, he found a place to connect, somewhere to get ideas and inspiration.

“University has enabled me interact with different people and cultures. It helped me diversify my thinking and creativity,” he explains. Bruno openly says that navigating the student life and music is not easy.

“It’s difficult.  But if you have passion, if you have dedication, discipline, it comes naturally,” he admits.

The lyrics Bruno comes up with come from everyday experiences friendships, struggles we face, the street life and the silent victories.

“I speak on the day-to-day life experiences, something that you and I are going through, or the common person is going through, there’s no facade.”

Whether you’re a fan of trap or not, you’ll find a piece of yourself in his verses.

Despite his passion and dedication, Ojijo has not be left out of the frustrations of the music industry.

From unpaid gigs to demoralizing feedback from the crowd he performed to, he faced all of them head on.

When asked about the most memorable performance he recalls, Bruno’s answer is really refreshing.

“Like my first performance, there was not too many people, it was actually my own boys, it was like five people on the crowd, but it was one of the best,” he says with a smile.

This was his proudest performance since his five friends made time to listen to him, this meant more to him than any big crowd.

“They spared their time, to listen to him, I felt that, for me it was special.”

When asked about where he gets his inspirations from, Bruno humbly says that his influencers are not global but he listens to local upcoming artist.

“I don’t look up to big names. I learn from the unknown. Their creativity runs deep because they are still hungry for more,” he explains.

For the future, Bruno’s vision runs far beyond music. “Music is just a stepping stone.” He wants to dive deeper into his Film profession.
