How to Restart TikTok

Sometimes, you may experience issues with your TikTok app, such as videos not loading properly, features not working as expected, or the app freezing. In such cases, restarting TikTok can help resolve these glitches. Restarting TikTok can also be useful if you want to refresh your account experience or troubleshoot errors. Here is how to restart TikTok.

Force Close and Reopen the App

The simplest way to restart TikTok is by force closing the app and reopening it. On Android devices, go to your phone’s settings, tap on “Apps” or “App Management,” then find and select TikTok.

From there, choose “Force Stop.” Once the app has closed completely, go back to your home screen and tap on the TikTok icon to relaunch it. For iOS users, swipe up from the bottom of the screen (or double-click the Home button on older devices) to view your open apps. Swipe TikTok up to close it, then reopen the app from your home screen.

Clear Cache for Better Performance

If restarting TikTok doesn’t resolve the issue, clearing the app’s cache might help. TikTok stores temporary data that can sometimes become corrupted. On Android, navigate to Settings > Apps > TikTok > Storage and tap “Clear Cache.” For iPhone users, TikTok allows you to clear cache directly from within the app. Open TikTok, go to your profile, tap the three lines in the top right corner, select “Settings and Privacy,” then scroll down and choose “Clear cache.”

Restart Your Device

If force closing and clearing the cache don’t help, restarting your entire device can refresh system memory and clear out background tasks that may be interfering with TikTok’s performance. Turn off your phone, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on. After your device reboots, open TikTok again to see if the issue has been resolved.

Reinstall the TikTok App

As a last resort, if all else fails, uninstalling and reinstalling TikTok can often fix persistent bugs. Delete the TikTok app from your device, then visit the Google Play Store or Apple App Store to download and install it again. Keep in mind that if you uninstall the app, your account data will remain safe, but you may need to log in again once the app is reinstalled.
