Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen denied claims government officials are investigating former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Public Service colleague Justin Muturi over their utterances.
Murkomen reiterated that it is a requirement for state and public officers comply with the Secrecy Act.
He stressed that compliance enforcement is apolitical and does not target any individual, dismissing claims that Gachagua and Muturi are persons of interest.
“None is investigating the two gentlemen. It’s not true,” he said.
Murkomen noted that when Members of Parliament expressed concerns that ex-state and public officers are bound by the confidential law and should not be disclosing sensitive matters when they vacate office.
He explained that this only applies to those that border on national security.
“MPs asked general questions, including compliance with the confidential law. We have no complaint at the moment and no one is under investigation, “ said Murkomen.
“We are talking of any officer given opportunity to access government information that could compromise national
security and borders on espionage ,” he said.
Gachagua and Muturi have been releasing what is perceived to be sensitive information to the public in media interviews.
They have threatened to release more information with time.
These include those on government operations and in regard to graft which has angered some officials.
Some of the officials have called for a probe into their conduct.
