An aircraft accident has been reported at Lolokwe Mountain in Samburu County, Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has confirmed.
The incident involving a Eurocopter EC130 B4, registration number 5Y-GYM, occurred on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at approximately 9:13 a.m. local time.
According to KCAA, the aircraft was flying from Loisaba to Ewasonyiro when the accident occurred.
The aviation regulator said it is working with relevant government agencies and other stakeholders as efforts to respond to the incident continue.
The Air Accident Investigation Department under the Ministry of Roads and Transport is leading investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
KCAA has not provided further details on the number of people who were on board or the extent of injuries and casualties as investigations and response operations continue.
The authority expressed condolences to the families of those affected by the tragic incident.
The accident comes under the jurisdiction of KCAA, the statutory body responsible for regulating civil aviation safety and security in Kenya, as well as overseeing air navigation services and other aviation-related functions.
