Detectives launched investigations after an armed gang posing as police officers raided a secondary school in Elgeyo Marakwet County and stole an unknown amount of money.
The robbery occurred in the early hours of Monday at Kaptagat Girls High School in Keiyo South Sub-County.
According to police, six men dressed in police uniforms gained entry into the school compound after cutting through an iron-sheet perimeter fence.
Two of the suspects were reportedly armed with pistols.
The gang is said to have overpowered four watchmen who were on duty, tying their hands and legs with ropes before forcing them to lie face down as the robbery unfolded.
The suspects then broke into the deputy principal’s office and the bursar’s office using crude weapons, including a crowbar. School officials reported that an undisclosed amount of money was stolen from the deputy principal’s office.
Authorities were still assessing losses from the bursar’s office as the officer in charge was unavailable at the time of the police visit.
Investigators found the offices extensively ransacked, with cabinets and shelves forced open and documents scattered across the rooms. A desktop computer was also vandalized during the incident.
Police said all students remained safe in their dormitories throughout the attack and no injuries were reported.
Police processed the scene and launched investigations to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
The exact value of the stolen property is yet to be established.
