At least four killed after lorry carrying logs collides with matatu in Nyeri, police say


At least four people died following a tragic road accident involving a lorry carrying logs and a matatu in Nyeri County.

Police said at least six other victims were rushed to hospitals.

Witnesses said the crash happened near Kimathi University along Nyeri – Nyahururu road.

Police said the lorry swerved to avoid cyclists, leading to the collision on Saturday evening.

The force of the impact caused severe damage, and several passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Emergency services were at the scene managing the aftermath and facilitating the evacuation of the injured.

Earlier on, police said seven people had died in separate road accidents in the country.

Police said the victims included four pedestrians, two riders and a pedal cyclist.

The accidents left at least 14 people with serious injuries, police said adding they were rushed to various hospitals.

Fatal accidents have been on the rise amid efforts to address the trend.
