Babu Owino credits constituents after being ranked top-Performing MP

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has attributed his recognition as Kenya’s top-performing Member of Parliament to the support of his constituents, emphasizing that leadership is rooted in service rather than power.

Speaking after receiving the ranking award on starleaders ceremonial, Owino thanked residents of Embakasi and Kenyans at large. “The great people of Embakasi constituency—without you, I would not be here today. I thank the Almighty God for this recognition,” he said.

Owino stressed that leadership should focus on delivering results to the people. “Leadership is not about power, positions, or titles. It is about service delivery, and service delivery is the foundation of great leadership,” he stated.

He added that true leadership is about uplifting the less fortunate. A true leader does not ask what they gain, but how they can help. Leadership is about helping and uplifting the downtrodden and forgotten in society,” he said.

The MP dedicated the recognition to his constituents. “This award is for the great people of Embakasi and Kenyans who support us. It is not about me—it is about the people I serve,” he noted.

Owino highlighted key projects undertaken in his constituency, including bursary programs, road construction, and water projects. “We have drilled 28 boreholes and improved over 85 roads. The service we are delivering is what matters, he said.

Encouraging fellow leaders to improve performance, he added, “When leaders are ranked, it ensures accountability. Those who have not done well will pull up their socks, while those who have performed will strive to do even better.”

He maintained that his focus remains on improving livelihoods. “The ordinary Kenyan wakes up early struggling to survive. That is the person we are working for—to lift them to a better level in life,” Owino said.

The lawmaker reiterated his commitment to service, saying he does not expect gratitude from constituents but more demands for development. “I don’t expect a thank you—I expect them to ask for more because I am here to serve,” he concluded.
