Boda boda Riders Excited As Ruto Promises To Reduce Motorcycle Prices To Sh 95,000


Boda boda riders are in celebratory moods following an announcement from President William Ruto that will give them reprieve.

President William Ruto, on Thursday, August 7 2025, while speaking during a meeting with boda boda officials from all sub-counties at State House announced that he will initiate reforms in the boda boda industry, that will will greatly help operators.

The President promised to initiate legislative changes that will delete taxes and reduce motorcycle prices for common wananchi.

He assured boda boda operators that the price of a motorcycle will now be reduced to Sh 95,000.

This publication understands the current price of a motorcycle ranges between Sh 150,000 and 195,000.

Ruto also stated that he is considering reforms in the sector to reduce daily payments and deposit amounts for people who intend to buy motorcycles on credit.

The head of state said boda boda operators will only pay a deposit of Sh 9,500 and a daily payment of Sh 180 per day instead of the current Sh 500.

“I will go to Parliament to get rid of taxes, and that will reduce the cost of motorbikes. I want ordinary people to buy motorcycles. The motorbike will no longer be Sh 190,000, it will be Sh 95,000. That is half. The deposit will not be KSh70,000, it will be Sh9,500. The payments per day will not be Sh 500 but Sh180,” Ruto promised.

The President reiterated the reforms is aimed at reducing prices of motorcycles in a bid to enable operators to easily afford them.

He also directed the Interior Ministry and the police to release impounded motorcycles held over non-criminal violations such minor traffic offences and missing papers.

Ruto gave the aforementioned entities a seven-day deadline to comply.

He wrapped up by promising reforms to protect boda boda operators against police harassment.

According to Ruto, the operators are hard working and legitimate entrepreneurs who need all the necessary support from the government.
