The body of a 26-year-old man who had been reported missing was recovered from a man-made dam at a farm in Kamunyange Sub-location, Mwea East, Kirinyaga County.
The body of Elisha Murimi Gachoki was discovered on Tuesday evening after a resident noticed a foul smell coming from a dam within his farm.
According to the police, the resident checked the dam and spotted a lifeless body floating in the water before notifying the authorities.
Police officers visited the scene and retrieved the body.
The body had no visible physical injuries and was positively identified by the deceased’s uncle, James Ndamberi Njue.
Gachoki had previously been reported missing at Togonye Police Post on September 21, 2026.
Crime Scene Investigation officers from Kerugoya documented the scene before the body was transferred to Kibugi Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
And the body of a man who drowned in River Tana in Mbeere North, Embu County, has been recovered after resurfacing three days after the incident.
The deceased, identified as John Kirimi Njeru, was found floating along the banks of River Tana in Muiru Village, Kamarandi Location, on Tuesday at around 4:30pm.
Police officers visited the scene and recovered the body, before documenting the area as part of investigations.
The body was later taken to the Ishiara Level 4 Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Njeru had been reported to have drowned in the river on September 20, 2026.
Police said they are investigating the incident.
